More
GlaxoSmithKline Sports and Social Club was founded in 1946 and occupied rented premises in Queen Street until it moved to its present building which was erected in 1954. The building has undergone many alterations and extensions over the years to cater for the ever growing membership. The Club has three separate Bars; the Main Bar, Lounge Bar, and Concert Hall Bar, all of which offer a full range of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks at extremely competitive prices, in fact the lowest prices in the Barnard Casle area. A luxuriously stylish 80 seater Lounge with hi-fi background music is a popular venue on evenings and weekends and hosts regular Quiz and Karaoke evenings as well as being a popular room for parties, christenings and buffets. Its Concert Hall is a modern venue fitted out with an ultra modern lighting and sound system. It boasts three stages, a large projection screen which is used to show sporting events such as the World Cup, seating for 200 and a 16 x 12 metre hardwood dance floor. Complete with its own Bar, this Hall is a popular venue for stage acts, weddings and large Corporate events.
