FOCUS ON THE NEW YORK CITY CHAPTER
Spring 2025 NEWSLETTER
Greetings ACC-NYC Community,
When I stepped in to serve as this year’s ACC-NYC Chapter President, I set a goal of building an even more vibrant legal community among our ACC-NYC members, sponsors, and partners. As I reflect on the evolving demands of in-house counsel, new issues brought on by emerging technology and constant change, and my own career aspirations, the concept of community and importance of networking resonates with me now more than ever.
I recall the first ACC-NYC Chapter event that I attended. I had made a new year’s resolution to invest in building a stronger professional network that year. Shortly thereafter, an ACC-NYC networking social invitation popped up in my inbox and I immediately signed up. I was a bit nervous to attend on my own. My nerves were instantly put at ease when I was warmly welcomed to the event and introduced around to friendly members and sponsors. By the end of the evening, I was hooked on ACC and made it a priority to get more involved in the community. Over 10 years later, I can say that I am a more well-rounded lawyer, better connected to in-house and law firm thought leaders, and better versed on the emerging trends in in-house practice, all thanks to my involvement in the ACC community.
Just this week, I had the opportunity to connect for coffee with an ACC Chapter leader who recently relocated from Singapore to New York. This coffee meet-up was the product of another ACC chance encounter when I happened to sit next to the ACC Singapore Chapter president at lunch at ACC’s Annual Meeting last year in Nashville. Also this week at a joint ACC-NYC Board meeting and Practice Group Chair Summit, I listened to one of our Practice Group Chairs recount a story about how she landed her current job by reaching out to an ACC-NYC Chapter contact who she discovered was connected on LinkedIn to the hiring manager. These stories are not outliers – come to any ACC-NYC event and I bet you won’t have to work hard to hear stories about how the ACC-NYC community members have helped each other in all sorts of ways.
And speaking of incredible opportunities to network, be sure to save the date for The 2025 General Counsel Toolkit, which will take place on Tuesday, June 10th at Ease 605, conveniently located near Grand Central Station. Attendees will earn up to 6 CLE credits in the practice areas that matter most to in-house counsel, including the coveted ethics and DEI credits. We will host a CLO breakfast with a hot topic round table discussion, a “Career Corner” networking session, and a fireside chat with a leading legal leader.
ACC-NYC’s members are our most valuable asset. If you have thoughts on how to make our ACC-NYC Chapter a stronger community, we would love to hear from you! Follow us on our LinkedIn page and check out our event photos on our ACC-NYC website. We hope to see you at an upcoming Chapter event soon:
Respectfully,
Kate McMenamy

U.S. Dials Back Implementation of Foreign Corrupt Practices Act
By: Kurt K. Lunkenheimer
On February 10, 2025, President Trump signed an executive order instructing the Department of Justice (DOJ) and Attorney General (AG) Pamela Bondi to “cease initiation of any new [Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA) (15 U.S.C. §§ 78dd-1 et seq.)] investigations or enforcement actions” for 180 days, and, in that same time period, “review in detail all existing FCPA investigations or enforcement actions” to determine if those actions meet the new administration’s view of “proper” FCPA enforcement, and match the “Presidential foreign policy prerogatives.”
While on its face the executive order appears to significantly alter future FCPA investigations and prosecutions, and will limit for 180 days, DOJ’s enforcement of the FCPA, multinational companies should not sit back and relax their efforts to comply with the FCPA.

New York Poised to Expand Severance Agreement Rules: Key Employer Takeaways
By: Melissa Camire and Henry Thomson-Smith
Employers would have to give all employees in New York time to review and revoke severance agreements under a bill that just passed the state Senate on March 4. The No Severance Ultimatums Act now moves to the Assembly, and if it’s ultimately enacted, the legislation would amend the New York Labor Law to prohibit employers from imposing “coercive ultimatums” in employment severance agreements.
