President's Letter for January 2018
|
Hello All,
We are coming up on some exciting times in our chapter and have some great events and changes coming up in the near future. Effective 1/31/2018, I will be stepping down as President for the SC Midlands ISACA Chapter, and will be staying on as Past President. To fill the role, Tom Scott, our current GRA Director, will be assuming the role. Please welcome and thank Tom Scott as you are able, we are fortunate to have someone with his experience leading us into a new year. Our chapter is growing, as we now have over 340 members! ISACA has many changes we expect to occur within 2018, such as updates to their web site (finally!), the CSX training curriculum, and also a new method of ensuring that certification trainers (CISA/CISM/CRISC/CGEIT) are knowledgeable and capable. This will drive a quality of delivery within ISACA certification training across the board.
As always, if you are interested in volunteering on the board, or at events, please let us know.
It has truly been a pleasure serving as your President, and I look forward to seeing everyone at one of our events in the future.
Thanks,
Marc Punzirudu
Current President

We are excited to announce that
registration is open for “Beyond the Blind Spot Zone” with Kevin McCarthy to be
held at the South Carolina State Museum on Wednesday, March 21, 2018.
This fantastic course is sponsored by the
three SC IIA Chapters, the SC Midlands ISACA
Chapter, the ACFE Palmetto Chapter and the SC State Internal Auditors
Association. Please visit our event site at http://www.eiseverywhere.com/310774
and secure your registration as soon as possible as this is a popular course!
Kevin McCarthy is the author of the Amazon
#1 Best Selling book in two categories (Financial Risk Mgt & Business
Ethics): “Blindspots: Why Good People Make Bad Choices”. The book
is based on his own experience: as a respected business leader,
husband and father he suddenly found himself in federal prison for a crime he
didn't knowingly commit. As he struggled to understand the complexity of
his bad decisions, an ever-widening web of conspiracy and corruption is
revealed. But it's not the legal conspiracy of the largest stock fraud in
the history of Washington State involving some of the biggest names in sports
or the enigmatic FBI – it’s a conspiracy of the mind – a battle with the most
nefarious enemy of us all: our own blind spots – those unconscious biases,
implicit associations, memory traps and thinking errors that affect our
behavior and decision-making abilities.
Included in the 7.5 CPE training’s full
admission cost of $100 for members and $130 for non-members is the instructor’s
book along with a book signing reception immediately following the
class. The book signing reception from 5:30 to 8:00 pm is an
excellent opportunity to network with peers, visit the planetarium and explore
the State Museum.
Other options to attend the book signing
function are also available. Please review fees and registration
information on the event website for information.
Please contact us at education@scisaca.org or
Palmetto.IIA.Training@gmail.com
with any questions, and we look forward to seeing you there!
