FRESNO, Calif. - A wiggly good partnership! The Washington State Department of Commerce announced that $970,000 in grants from the Clean Energy Fund (CEF) under the Dairy Digester Enhancement Program was awarded to four comprehensive projects, one of which was granted to Valley Ventures alumni and wastewater treatment company, BioFiltro, in partnership with a Washington based organic residuals management company, Organix Inc.
The $205,855 comprehensive pilot study will investigate the potential benefits of processing effluent from a dairy anaerobic digester using the digestive power of worms and microbes through the BioFiltro Biodynamic Aerobic (BIDA®) System. This innovative system is anticipated to improve air quality by mitigating noxious odors, reducing greenhouse gases, and improving effluent from the digester for reuse in the dairy flush system or on crops.
"This study should confirm how BioFiltro and anaerobic digesters complement each other and truly make liquid manure management a profitable endeavor," said Mai Ann Healy, VP of Sales and Marketing for BioFiltro. "We are excited to work with Organix Inc. on this project and are also thankful for the support given by the community at the WET Center and Valley Ventures program especially since one of our first USA pilots was at the Fresno State Dairy!"
